Creating Custom Pages in WordPress

Start.

Hi everyone! This tutorial will discuss one of the more versatile customizations that you can do with WordPress – creating your custom pages! By creating custom pages, you can create your own codes and pages, you can also change your default home page, create entirely new pages that does anything that you can imagine outside of the normal WordPress functions. For this blog’s purpose, I am going to create a page that will summarize the tutorials written here. If you’ve noticed, there are two major tutorial categories – one involves graphics and the other involves blogging. For this tutorial, the page will display the tutorials for each particular category. If you noticed, you are going to see 2(two) additional page links at the top of this page- those are the links to the new pages I’ve created for this blog. Let’s get started. Setting Up Nameservers

Start.

I have finally decided to buy my own domain name, cajentutorials.com. I had to mull over it for a couple of days, but if you want to have branding and web presence, you absolutely NEED to have your own domain name. The process of selecting your domain name is of utmost importance as you and your site will be known by that name. This post from NetBusinessBlog helped me at arriving at a more informed decision. It lists advantages of having a .com domain over any other domains out there.

This tutorial is brief and involves setting up your nameservers once you have your own domain. I purchased my domain at Geek Domains, they have the cheapest recurring domain pricing I’ve seen @ $6.95/yr + $0.20 ICANN fee. My total is $7.15 for one year.
UPDATE: As Robert suggested, you also have the option of signing up for a free domain.

Anyway, now that I have my domain, I need to setup my nameservers, that way the domain will point to my free webhosting!
If you are planning to purchase your own domain and host it at 000webhost, you are gonna need to do the following. First, login to your 000webhost control panel and create a new account. For the domain, enter your new domain name and assign a password for it.

New Theme ~ Colourise

While I’m surfing the internet, I stumbled upon this theme. I fell in love with it immediately.
Colourise is a wordpress theme designed by styleshout. You can get it at Themelab for free! They also offer other themes - another great theme resource for wordpress.

Starting a Blog : Finishing touches

Start.

If you haven’t, please read part 1 and part 2 of this tutorial series. Now that you have a working blog, you can now start publishing content. But before you do, WordPress offers a lot of customization options to give your blog its identity. I will be briefly touch on a couple of them now.
First is your blog’s theme. If you noticed, the default theme, is very clean and simple.

Default theme

However, it’s too simple and ‘deafulty’ for my taste. There are tons of themes that you can choose from. Read the rest of this entry »
