Hi everyone! This tutorial will discuss one of the more versatile customizations that you can do with WordPress – creating your custom pages! By creating custom pages, you can create your own codes and pages, you can also change your default home page, create entirely new pages that does anything that you can imagine outside of the normal WordPress functions. For this blog’s purpose, I am going to create a page that will summarize the tutorials written here. If you’ve noticed, there are two major tutorial categories – one involves graphics and the other involves blogging. For this tutorial, the page will display the tutorials for each particular category. If you noticed, you are going to see 2(two) additional page links at the top of this page- those are the links to the new pages I’ve created for this blog. Let’s get started. This is the second and concluding part of this tutorial. Please read the first part, if you haven’t already. Alright, now that we have created, and customized our Google Custom Search Engine, we are now ready to add it to our page. This is how it’s going to work. We need to create a page, within our blog, where the search results will be displayed. Then we are going to customize Wordpress’ built-in search engine and change it to the one we just created in Google. Let’s get to work.
First we are going to learn how to add a page to our blog. This page will display the search results from Google. Adding pages offers the flexibility of customization (which we will discuss in a later topic). Open your favorite text editor, or web page software. I use Dreamweaver. Hello everyone! So how are your blogs going? I’d love to see one of yours, so please do drop me a line and i’ll visit them. We might even do a link exchange.
In this 2-part entry, we are going to add a useful tool for your blog. A search engine. Your wordpress has a built-in search engine. However, in this tutorial we are going to use Google’s custom search engine. That way we can potentially earn money while using the most widely-used search engine. To start, if you haven’t already, register an account with Google Custom Search. Registration and setup should be easy as Google makes it quite user-friendly. After registration, click Create a Custom Search Engine. Fill in the boxes to your liking. Feel free to customize yours depending on your site/blog content. You can also specify certain sites that you’d like to be emphasized when displaying search results (you can add your own site here); also choose the free edition (Standard), unless you want the paid service. Submit.

On the next page, assuming there are no errors, you should get a congratulatory message telling that you have successfully created the search engine. Read the rest of this entry »
